Solution Report: Anderson Dean Park Pool Renovation

Category: Community Pool Renovation

Location: Harrodsburg, KY

Completion Date: 06/29/24

The Anderson-Dean Community Park Aquatic Facility, located in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, has been a cherished recreational spot since its opening in 2004. The facility features a 240,000-gallon outdoor pool with a zero-depth entry, a kiddie play area, and a three-story water slide.

Over the years, the pool has faced several challenges. It was closed for extended periods in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and structural issues. In June 2023, a significant leak resulted in the loss of one million gallons of water within a week, prompting further repairs. These setbacks prevented the pool from operating for a full season since 2019.

Profile:

The Anderson Dean Park pool in Harrodsburg, KY, has been an important part of the community since its opening in 2004. However, the pool faced numerous challenges over the years, including a major leak that forced its closure in 2023. After losing 1 million gallons of water in just one week, the decision was made to stop patching issues and fully renovate the pool. This renovation project was undertaken to ensure the pool could provide another 20 to 25 years of enjoyment for the community.

RenoSys was contracted to install a brand new PVC membrane over the 9,312 sq ft area of the pool. This was a crucial step in the renovation, designed to address the previous leaks and structural problems that had plagued the pool for years. Our team worked alongside other contractors on-site who were performing additional repairs, making for a challenging but ultimately successful renovation.

Challenges:

The main challenge with this project was coordinating the installation of the new PVC membrane while other construction activities were happening simultaneously. The pool had been plagued by leaks and improper plumbing since it first opened, leading to significant water loss and the need for extensive repairs. Our team worked closely with the other contractors to ensure that the membrane installation proceeded smoothly, despite the logistical hurdles.

The wet weather also presented an additional challenge, as rain can interfere with the membrane installation process. However, our crew worked efficiently to stay on schedule and complete the installation by the target date. The customer was thrilled with the results and excited to see the pool filled with water once again.
